Locked In started with a simple frustration: every focus app we tried made it too easy to quit. So we built one that does not.
Our Story
It started with an exam. The study session was planned, the notes were open, and then Instagram was open. Then YouTube. Then it was midnight and the exam was in the morning.
We tried every focus app available. Most had a pause button. Some required a subscription just to get basic blocking. None had any real accountability built in, the kind that makes you feel something when you give up.
Locked In is what we wished existed. An app that takes your goals seriously, that makes quitting come with a social cost, and that gives you a genuine record of the time you actually put in.
We are a small team based in New Zealand, building this for students, professionals, and anyone else who keeps losing battles against their own phone. No shortcuts in the app, and no shortcuts in how we build it.
What We Stand For
Willpower alone is not enough. We design systems that make it harder to give up, not by punishing you, but by making your commitments visible to someone who matters.
We do not sell your data. We do not track what you do beyond what is needed for the app to work. Your focus sessions are yours.
Most focus apps are easy to get around. We think that defeats the purpose. Locked In is built to actually work, even when part of you does not want it to.
Locked In is built by a New Zealand team and operates under New Zealand law, including the Privacy Act 2020. We are committed to transparent, ethical data practices and building technology that serves the people using it.
